Wok Sets Recalled by Pier 1 Imports NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Ken Giles May 15, 1997 (301) 504-7052 Release # 97-123 CPSC, Pier 1 Imports Announce Recall of Wok Sets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Pier 1 Imports of Fort Worth, Texas, is recalling about 7,680 wok sets. The wok's support ring stand has extremely sharp edges, presenting a laceration hazard. CPSC is aware of one report of a consumer receiving a deep finger cut from the stand's edge. This recall involves large and small wok sets. There is no labeling on either the large or small wok set. The large 6-piece wok set includes a 13-inch diameter aluminum lid, a steel body, a steel support ring stand with nine circular cutouts, a wire steamer rack, a stainless steel turner with wooden handle, and one pair of chopsticks. The small 5-piece wok set includes a 9-inch diameter aluminum lid, a steel body, a steel support ring stand with five circular cutouts, a wire steamer rack, and a frying rack. Both wok sets are packaged in cardboard boxes with a drawing of the wok set on the box. The large wok set's box is labeled in part, "SIX PIECE WOK SET...The Market at Pier 1...Contents made in Taiwan...SKU#119-5649." The small wok set's box is labeled in part, "MINI WOK SET...The Market at Pier 1...Contents made in Taiwan...SKU#119-5651." Pier 1 Imports stores nationwide sold the wok sets from April 1993 through April 1997. The wok sets initially sold for about $35 (large) and $25 (small) and were reduced to the clearance price of about $13 (large) and $9 (small). Consumers should stop using the wok sets immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund or store credit. For more information about this recall, consumers should call Pier 1 Imports at (800) 245-4595 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m CST Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, or 12 p.m. and 7 p.m Sunday.
